AT&T is adding eight more HD channels to its U-verse TV line-up, bringing its current HD platform for subscribers to more than 40 outlets. AT&T said it’s now providing more HD options in the markets it’s serving than its cable competitors. U-verse TV is a completely IP-based system that runs on fiber-optic cable.
New offerings include Animal Planet HD, CNN HD, Discovery HD, Science Channel HD, Starz Kids & Family HD, Superstation WGN, TLC HD, and Versus (and Golf Channel) HD.
According to its Web site, U-verse TV is currently available in parts of at least nine states: California (San Francisco, San Jose, and Orange County); Connecticut (Fairfield County); Indiana (Indianapolis); Kansas (Kansas City); Michigan (Detroit); Ohio (Cleveland and suburban Columbus); Oklahoma (Oklahoma City); Texas (Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio); and Wisconsin (Milwaukee).
AT&T is providing HD service usually for about an extra $10 monthly with any of its program packages—which typically include HD-ready equipment and, in many cases, HD-capable DVRs.
