Aurora Video Systems has released its new PipeSDI video capture and editing card, designed to take full advantage of the Apple Final Cut Pro RT Extreme architecture while providing broadcast-quality audio and video inputs and outputs for editors working with SDI and digital audio material.
The PipeSDI offers 10-bit performance and seamless integration with QuickTime and the Mac OSX. It features a 10-bit SDI input with up to eight channels of embedded audio in, and a 10-bit SDI output with eight channels of embedded audio out. This could, for example, allow editors to connect to a Digital Betacam deck while connecting directly to an external video monitor and a digital deck controlled via PipeSDI's RS-422 device control port. Four channels of 24-bit digital audio I/O, each of which comprises two AES-compatible channel pairs, provide both excellent sound and broad compatibility while allowing users to work in multiple channels.
No third-party software is necessary for previewing video in applications other than Final Cut Pro. An extended Mac desktop allows users to put application windows on the NTSC/PAL output for Photoshop or other graphics applications. In addition to moving data from Final Cut Pro and putting it on-screen, Aurora Pipe cards provide real-time preview compatibility with After Effects and Discreet's Combustion. The PipeSDI also features a custom-engineered PCI interface designed specifically for the demands of working with uncompressed video on the Mac OSX Panther.
