Auvitek Announces DTMB DTV Receiver IC
Auvitek International has introduced a DTV receiver IC for China's Digital Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcast (DTMB) standard. Auvitek said the AU8822 IC is fully compliant with the GB20600-2006 National Standard.
The DTMB standard includes both single carrier and multi-carrier transmission modes, requiring a very complex demodulator.
"Auvitek's experience in developing increasingly advanced demodulation architectures, particularly for single-carrier markets, and in taking those products into stable high-volume production with multiple customers, gave us significant insights into how to produce the most effective DTMB receiver solution," said Pete Birch, Auvitek's president and CEO. "The AU8822 outperforms existing solutions, yet is cost effective enough to help the DTMB market to achieve the rapid growth that will aid China's transition from analog to digital TV broadcast."
The AU8822 uses Auvitek's FADE (Fully Adaptive Demodulation and Equalization) architecture and supports all 330 modes of single carrier and multiple carrier operation specified in the GB20600-2006 standard without the need for external DRAM or ADCs. Support for legacy analog PAL and NTSC format is included. Mode detection is automatic.
AU8822 samples are available now. The evaluation kits incorporate drivers for embedded applications, Windows or Linux operating environments. Volume production is planned for early first quarter, 2009.
