Avatar Environmental to assist FCC in inquiry into migratory bird safety
The commission has retained an environmental specialist to help it evaluate the impact of construction projects on animal and plant species as required by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
The chief duty of Avatar Environmental Services will be to review studies referenced in reply to the commission’s Notice of Inquiry, issued Aug. 20, 2003, on the impact communications towers may have on migratory birds.
The company also will help the commission in reviewing license applications that may have a biological impact covered by the NEPA and the Endangered Species Act, including the possible effects on migratory birds.
Hiring Avatar is in line with Chairman Michael Powell’s Environmental and Historic Preservation Action Plan, a commission statement said.
