Avid Announces NBC, Discovery Deals
NBC and Discovery Television are among the latest customers to purchase news and editing gear from Avid Technology.
NBC plans to replace several of its tape-based news production systems with Avid digital newsroom gear in a $6.7 million purchase. The gear will include Unity for News, NewsCutter, iNews, Media Browse, Avid Nearchive and Xdeck systems. The network will begin installing the systems across several of its flagship news businesses, such as NBC's headquarters in New York, MSNBC's facility in New Jersey and NBC's Washington bureau.
In the Discovery deal, Discovery Production Group, the production arm of Discovery Television, purchased and installed 28 Avid Media Composer Adrenaline nonlinear editing platforms for its facility in Silver Spring, Md. The company says the Adrenaline systems will complement the Avid equipment already in use, including Avid Symphony editing bays, Digidesign Pro Tools workstations and Avid/DS HD systems. Discovery uses the Avid tools to serve multiple functions in a deadline-intensive facility.
