Work has begun on a project to relocate the BBC central London training studio from Marylebone to White City.
The project, which is being implemented by international systems integrator ATG Broadcast with help from refurbishment and outfitting specialist Overbury, is being done in a six-story building near the BBC Television Center and Media Village. The center is one of three used to train BBC trainees and independent students.
ATG Broadcast and Overbury have until Aug. 28 to complete the relocation so the new facility is ready for the beginning of the 2009-10 academic year in September, said David Whitaker, projects manager for ATG Broadcast.
ATG Broadcast is preassembling many of the modules for the project, including an 11-bay production desk and a 10ft sound desk from Custom Consoles' Module-R range of studio furniture.
Once completed, the new training center will include a media gallery that is being equipped with a media wall accommodating multiple 42in JVC 16:9 preview and program monitors with under-monitor displays as well as an array of 20in Marshall widescreen monitors. Additional monitors will mount directly to the desks on adjustable Ergotron arms, including four on the production desk and three on the sound desk.
The facility also will make use of a new FOR-A HVS-3800HS production switcher, which is replacing an older model, and a FOR-A MV1600 multiviewer, as well as Autocue teleprompter, ATG Broadcast Krone frame and wall boxes, AJA and Leitch interfaces, audio induction loop, and a sound control/monitor trolley.
