BBC Technology it will supply DirecTV with Colledia Control monitoring software to provide the direct satellite broadcaster with the ability to remotely manage its broadcast infrastructure at two new uplink facilities.
The contract for the software, which will monitor facilities being built in Oakdale, Minn., and Winchester, Va., follows an initial sale of Colledia Control to DirecTV in April.
Use of Colledia Control will help DirecTV expand its audience reach and increase the distribution of local channels from 61 cities to more than 100 before the end of the year. Installation is due to be complete by the end of December.
The new uplink facilities will augment DirecTV’s Castle Rock, Colo., and Los Angeles uplink facilities. Both new uplink stations will be managed remotely from the Castle Rock broadcast facility. They will allow DirecTV to serve Rochester, N.Y., Santa Barbara, Calif., Tulsa, Okla. and Wilmington, N.C.
With Colledia Control, DirecTV will be able to monitor the health of these remote facilities and the quality of the signals being received and transmitted across service provider’s more widely distributed market in a cost-effective manner.
