BBC tests tapeless HD acquisition
The BBC Technology Group's “Starwinder” project, designed to move its production and post activities to a more streamlined tapeless HD production environment by 2010, is using the Thomson Grass Valley Infinity Digital Media Camcorder and other products.
As the first phase of the project, the BBC will test several tapeless acquisition systems from Grass Valley and Panasonic over the next year to determine the BBC's future strategy.
The Infinity Series camcorder captures images in all common standard-definition and high-definition (SD/HD) formats. It also supports the DV, MPEG-2 and JPEG 2000 compression schemes.
