China Central TV Nixes Olympics Delay
For the first time in it“s nearly 50-year history, China Central Television will air live events without a delay. Thus viewers across China will see records set and races run the second it happens.
According to a report from China“s Xinhua News Agency, CCTV traditionally delays broadcasts of live events for at least 30 seconds “to guarantee programs could be aired smoothly and safelyâ?¦ But at the Beijing Olympics, CCTV will not use the 30-second technical delay. Its programs will be synchronized with the international TV and radio signals distributed by the International Broadcast Center,” said Jiang Heping, controller of sports channel CCTV-5.
CCTV will air some 2,500 hours of Olympics coverage on seven of its 17 channels across China.
