Belgian post house relies on Snell & Wilcox for restoration, conversion

Snell and Wilcox's Ukon system enables operators at the Studio l'Equipe to encode SD images from events such as concerts and upgrade them to HD quality for digital cinema viewing.

Studio l'Equipe, a Brussels-based video and audio post-production company, is using the Snell & Wilcox Archangel Ph.C real-time motion-compensated video archive processor and Ukon universal conversion platform to streamline and expand its digital workflow for film restoration and digital cinema applications.

The Archangel is a real-time restoration system that can correct artifacts using motion compensation working on 525 and 625-originated material. At Studio l'Equipe, the system is being used for a wide variety of restoration projects.

Located at the center of the facility's SD operations, Archangel allows the staff to improve film masters for archiving or mastering by cleaning up, fixing and stabilizing any video material that has deteriorated or been damaged.

The Ukon system enables operators to encode SD images from events such as concerts and upgrade them to HD quality for digital cinema viewing. The Ukon can be configured to provide upconversion, downconversion and crossconversion (SD-to-SD or HD-to-HD).
