Belo Television Group is replacing tape-based processes with FlipFactory TrafficManager from Telestream . Belo is initially incorporating TrafficManager into 12 of its 19 stations, with the remainder scheduled to adopt the technology by the end of 2006.
The station initially purchased TrafficManager to automate ingest of commercial content from digital catch services and Belo soon realized that the system could provide the same benefits of promo and tag work being produced in-house on Avid and other edit systems.
"Telestream does the heavy lifting or rewrapping content into the appropriate format for direct, digital transfer to our play-to-air servers," said Reed Wilson, engineering project manager for the Dallas-based broadcast group.
As part of the new digital workflow, Belo is also using the Sundance Titan multichannel automation system and the Grass Valley 3500 Series Profile SD and HD media servers.
