Florida State Recruits Panasonic for Production
Seminole Productions, the video production unit of Florida State Universitys Department of Communications, recently invested in four Panasonic AJ-HPX2000 2/3-inch shouldermount P2 HD camcorders. The camcorders are being used to shoot features for several sports television shows that air on Fox Sports Net/Sun Sports, including Seminole Sports Magazine, a weekly university sports highlight show that reaches more than 2 million households in Florida.
Seminole Productions is deploying the HPX2000s in multicamera setups feeding the video boards at more than 80 live events annually, including Seminoles football, basketball and baseball games.
The unit also shoots various coaches shows for Fox Sun Sports in 720/24pN. Students handle about half of the production work. Florida State is following the growing trend of universities bulking up video production departments and creating content. The trend is also a boon to regional networks such as Fox Sports Net because they are spared production costs for original programming.
