12 GHz MVDDS Spectrum Auctions Start Dec. 7, 2005
The FCC is auctioning the MVDDS licenses--on Dec. 7, 2005--that were not sold in Auction 53, which closed in January 2004. Holders of MVDDS licenses can use the 12.2-12.7 GHz spectrum for any digital fixed one-way non-broadcast service. There is no paired return link spectrum, so licensees would have to use other spectrum or media if they wanted to create a two-way service such as high-speed Internet access. Mobile or aeronautical services are not allowed.
As this is unsold spectrum, only 22 licenses are available, mostly in smaller markets. For details on the auction, see the Public Notice (DA 05-1555) for information on the auction process and a list of licenses available.
