British Soccer Matches Going HD via DBS
European satellite broadcaster Sky will offer all its currently scheduled Premiership games live in HD when the DBS firm unveils its other HD services in 2006. The Premier League is English soccer.
Sky detailed its HD sports plans at the Broadcast's Digital Channel Conference in late June. Its director of channels and operations said approximately a hundred matches per season would be available in HD beginning next year.
Sky's HD service also will include motion pictures, documentaries, live special events and other fare, in addition to live coverage of soccer and other sports. Sky already provides four of its own SD sports channels (SkySports 1, 2 and 3, and SkySports Xtra) as premium services.
