Broadcast International shows HD at less than 3Mb/s
Broadcast International is demonstrating live HD video encoding at less than 3Mb/s at NAB2008.
Most HD video currently is being transmitted at the MPEG-2 standard of 19.4Mb/s. By compressing video to less than 3Mb/s, Broadcast International enables video providers to reduce their bandwidth needs for HD video by more than 80 percent.
Broadcast International also is demonstrating real-time video encoding and transcoding in the IBM booth (SU3614) where its CodecSys video compression software is integrated with the IBM Media Hub Solution Framework — IBM's service-oriented architecture (SOA)-based solution.
The demonstrations use Broadcast International's CodecSys video compression software running on the IBM BladeCenter QS21 server. CodecSys uses a multicodec approach in which a video stream is analyzed and the codec best suited for a particular frame or video sequence is automatically selected from an entire library of specialized codecs.
