Broadcasters form group to police programming
In an attempt to head off new government regulations, U.S. broadcasters are assembling a group to develop voluntary measures for guarding against indecency on the airwaves.
The new task force, assembled by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), will consider a number of options for self-policing the content of radio and television programming including a code of conduct. The trade association said it prefers a plan of voluntary action to deal with the issue. The NAB announced the plans for the task force a day after FCC officials urged members to develop their own new guidelines to avoid crossing the indecency line.
The NAB’s first Task Force on Responsible Programming meeting will be held in Las Vegas during the organization's annual convention, which runs April 17-22.
