Ofcom Plans U.K. Spectrum Auctions
United Kingdom telecom regulator Ofcom released an Information Memorandum and associated draft regulations for auctioning spectrum in the 1781.5-1785 MHz and 1876.7-1880 MHz regions. "Low-power Wireless Telegraphy Act" licenses will be auctioned in these bands. The auction is expected to take place before April 2006. Ofcom said a number of organizations had expressed interest in the frequencies for applications including private GSM networks in office buildings or campuses. The organizations said that most mobile phones can tune to these frequencies.
