St. Louis Stations Combine Operations
The CW and Fox affiliates in the St. Louis market will soon be run out of the same facility. KPLR-TV, the CW affiliate owned by Tribune, and KTVI-TV, the Fox station owned by Local TV Llc, will move to the same offices in Maryland Heights, Mo., and use one newsroom, “which will most likely lead to cost-cutting and lay-offs,” according to the St. Louis Business Journal.
Tribune and Local TV, formed by Oak Hill Partners when that private equity group purchased nine stations from The New York Times Co., have a joint subsidiary that runs both companies“ TV operations.
The Journal said KPLR recently launched a one-hour local newscast at 7 p.m., the only prime-time local newscast in St. Louis and one of very few in the country.
