WBRZ-TV Installs Ross Switcher
WBRZ-TV, the ABC affiliate in Baton Rouge, La., is installing Ross gear in its HD upgrade. The station, owned by the Manship family, is putting in a Ross Vision Quattro 3.5 multidefinition production switcher as well as Ross openGear terminal equipment, according to the switcher maker, based in Iroquois, Ontario, Canada.
WBRZ Chief Engineer Clyde Pierce said the functionality/price ratio was right for the station, which also favored using the openGear platform, which is supported by 16 companies and won recognition from the Society of Broadcast Engineers, the NAB and other organizations in 2006. The platform allows terminal technology from the various supporting companies to be used within the same frame. Partners include Ross, Cobalt Digital, Ward-Beck, Wohler, Telecast, Chromatec, Practel, Algolith and several others.
