Cable Network buys college sports Web Site
College Sports Television, the cable network, has agreed to buy the Official College Sports Network, a Web site, for $7.1 million. The Web site, the largest focused on college sports, had 7.5 million visitors last month.
Brian Bedol, CEO of College Sports Television, said the purchase would allow for cross-promotion between the cable network and Web site, while giving the company better access to the colleges and their alumni.
The Web site has more than 1,000 correspondents on college campuses, which the cable network will be able to tap for news and information. College Sports Television, which started in April, is available in 10 million homes—half on cable systems where it is offered in a basic digital service package, the other half on DirecTV satellite as part of a $10 monthly package of sports channels.
