Canada: CHUM to Use Harris Conversion for Daily HD Newscast
Toronto-based CHUM Television said it has placed a "significant order" for SD and HD conversion, processing, and control and monitoring equipment from Harris Corp. to support the Canadian broadcaster's latest HD initiative.
CHUM Television's Citytv plans to begin broadcasting its Toronto morning show, "Breakfast Television," in HD in September, along with "CityLine" and "CityNews" daily newscasts at noon, 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.
Both firms said this week the order from CHUM includes an unspecified number of Harris's X75 HD M-Path Multiple-Path Converter/Synchronizers, NEO XHD modular HD converters, and modular downconverters (model 6800+) for utility applications.
Harris said included in CHUM's order are also CCS Pilot control and monitoring software, as well as Nucleus network control panels for optional central operation of conversion, processing and routing equipment.
