Canada: Half of Blue Jays' TV Schedule in HD
While some baseball markets struggle to get as many games as possible on good old, run-of-the-mill analog TV (or in the case of the newest baseball market, Washington, D.C., more than a handful of televised games all season), the Toronto Blue Jays said its Major League Baseball club will partner with Rogers Sportsnet and TSN HD (The Sports Network) to televise no less than 145 games during the 2006 season. The season is scheduled to begin in a few weeks (out of 162 contests) with at least 72 of those games broadcast in HD.
According to published reports, nearly 60 of those 72 HD games will be broadcast on Sportsnet HD and the remainder will air on TSN HD. Sportsnet said a few away games will also be available in HD, as both sports networks enter the last half of a two-year contract with the Blue Jays.
The first televised game (apparently not in HD) is April 4 against the Minnesota Twins. Rogers Sportsnet operates four regional channels and one national HD sports service.
