Canada: Rogers Says a Third of Subs Receiving HD
While it’s quite likely a higher percentage of its viewers own HD television sets (see related item in this edition of HD Notebook), Rogers Cable Communications of Canada revealed this week that 34 percent of its customers currently subscribe to HD services.
Rogers said it has also seen a doubling of HD on-demand service in the past year.
Dubbing HD the “future of television,” Rogers said it now provides the most “choice in HD programming” than any other service provider in Canada, using the same method of determining its available content as fellow cabler Comcast in America—VOD and on-demand options. Rogers says its On Demand HD content provides the most HD movies and sports programming available. (It did not specify how much content is PPV.)
Rogers currently provides 24 channels as a package deal with its HD STB, with an additional 48 HD channels available in various premium packages. Its on-demand HD movies and HD television series library currently holds about 260 titles.
