Canada: Shaw Cable Stock Soars, Thanks Partly to HD
Shaw Communications' stock climbed to its highest level in nearly seven years late last week after the cable company released its financial results, coupled with a message to shareholders that it expects the addition of more HD channels to boost the MSO's "specialty subscriptions" in calendar year 2007.
The Calgary-based cable firm reported it had 200,000 customers signed on to receive HD and its HD pay-per-view services--which is about double the number of subs from a year ago, according to CBC News.
According to Shaw, the current number of HD subs could double again by the end of this year--bolstered by new HD channels being added over the next few months, and the increase in hockey and other sports programming that will be featured in HD.
