Canada: Sony Ships WiFi-enabled Blu-ray Player
Sony BDPS560
Sony Canada said it has begun shipment of its new BD Live Blu-ray player (BDP-S560) in Canada — a unit with WiFi capabilities.
The BDP-S560 comes with its share of bells and whistles, notably support for 1080p/24p and "deep color" video output. The player also supports 7.1 channel surround sound (both Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus).
But also giving more credence to the unit's audio components (something to make at least some HD proponents happy since they believe audio can be too easily overlooked in HD configurations), the BDP-S560 boasts DTS-HD High Resolution Audio and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding via HDMI.
The new player's built-in Wi-Fi capacities — and the fact that it's also DLNA-ready (Digital Living Network Alliance), gives it the option of connecting to other DLNA-compliant devices to, among other options, share digital photos
The shipped unit features a USB front-port for viewing photos (either from a USB flash memory device or directly from a digital camera).
The new unit is already available (or on pre-order) at some select retailers (including Amazon) in America.
