Looking to leverage advanced video stream processing technologies to deliver competitive broadcast television to subscribers, Green Dot, a telco provider in Trinidad and Tobago, has deployed video delivery technology from Harmonic to expand its terrestrial (DVB-T) television service. Green Dot is now positioned to provide its customers with a range of channels, improving viewer choice without compromising the viewing experience
Installed in St. James, Trinidad, the new Harmonic IP-based headend system provides high-quality compression and stream processing for more than 80 Green Dot TV channels using MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) compression. The TV service is delivered to tens of thousands of subscribers across the islands.
The Green Dot service is sent to a mountaintop tower via IP microwave link, and in turn transmitted throughout Trinidad and Tobago via DVB-T signal. Harmonic's Electra 5400 SD AVC encoders and ProStream 1000 stream processing platform with integrated DiviTrackIP statistical multiplexing technology deliver high-quality variable bit-rate (VBR) services while optimizing bandwidth efficiency. Harmonic's ProView 2900 receiver/decoders (IRDs) are used by Green Dot for content reception, and the company’s NMX Digital Service Manager provides Green Dot with a set of tools for configuring, monitoring and managing the full lineup of compressed digital video and audio services.
Green Dot was previously a customer of Scopus Video Networks, which was acquired by Harmonic in March 2009.
