CBS commits to Sony's XDCAM for ENG
Sony's XDCAM professional disc technology
CBS Television is adopting Sony's XDCAM professional disc technology as the ENG platform for CBS News and the CBS owned-and-operated stations.
CBS News plans to be fully operational with the XDCAM system by early 2005. The 16 CBS owned-and-operated stations will convert to XDCAM for ENG beginning in 2006.
CBS's conversion to Sony's optical disc technology is projected to exceed $20 million over the next two years. The network will take delivery of more than 75 XDCAM camcorders and decks, with hundreds of more units to be allocated across the owned-and-operated stations.
This large-scale, long-term commitment to Sony's XDCAM could help CBS's news division and the CBS stations to lower overall total operating costs, while providing an even higher level of service.
