CBS offers digital plan
CBS has called on its local stations to cooperate with new efforts to maximize the digital spectrum.
During the final day of its annual affiliates convention in Las Vegas, CBS executive Vice President Martin Franks outlined ambitious plans to provide extra programming for multicasting, video-on-demand and Internet. He sought the formation of a governance structure and business plan from the affiliate group’s futures committee to develop the initiatives.
Franks described various scenarios in which multicasting could be put to use, such as coverage of sporting events that offer alternate camera angles or statistics on other channels. CBS has already experimented with some local stations in simultaneously exhibiting multiple games during the annual NCAA basketball tournament.
