CBS Signs Retrans Deals

CBS Corp. announced this week that it had reached retransmission deals with nine cable operators. All of the agreements cover rights to the broadcasters' analog, digital, multicast and high-definition programming on CBS O&O's.

Terms of the deal as well as the identities of the cable operators were not disclosed, however, CBS characterized several of the cable companies as being in the list of "Top 25 MSOs" covering more than 1 million subscribers nationally.

"We're pleased to have forged these long-term, forward-looking partnerships with so many cable operators," said Leslie Moonves, president and CEO of CBS Corp. "Clearly there is a new paradigm in the marketplace--one that recognizes the value of the content that we bring to our various audiences. This is a trend that bodes well for us going forward as future retransmission deals are negotiated.

CBS Corp. currently has 39 O&O's; it announced two weeks ago that it was selling seven of those 39 stations to a New York-based investment firm.
