CBS Sports to Offer Most of March Madness in HD
As the first round of this year’s season of NCAA March Madness gets underway in a few weeks, CBS Sports’ recently rebranded “CBS College Sports Network” plans to cover most of the games in HD and offer a mixed bag of packaged content and other highlights of more than 60 tournament games, beginning with the first round March 20.
“NCAA March Madness Highlights” will recap the day’s action in college basketball, according to a CBS Sports statement, along with presenting highlights of past b-ball wars (“NCAA March Madness Memories”). CBS Sports has struck deals with Comcast and other providers to offer the packages of highlight clips for free via various established VOD platforms.
CBS Sports said both HD (1080i) and VOD content are now top priorities for MSOs and that its newly named college network will provide more options, controls and hands-on viewer access to content that ever before.
Also, all of March Madness will be available on demand at CBSSports.com. (See TV Technology NewsBytes, Feb. 15, 2008.) Read more about March Madness coverage in the March 5 issue of TV Technology.
