CBS Television's Studio 58, site of "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," has upgraded its studio to a 5.1 channel broadcast facility with the Solid State Logic C100 Digital Broadcast Console.
Primarily designed for on-air and live-to-tape production applications, Solid State Logic's C100 provides simultaneous 5.1, stereo and mono signal paths directly from source through to destination. The console features 80 mix busses for the numerous talent, communication and production area mixes that have become a standard requirement in program creation, according to the company.
"The C100 is just loaded with features that broadcast mixers need," Production Mixer Otto Svoboda said. "First and foremost, we were looking for a digital console that was 5.1-capable. The C100 has made that a very easy transition."
Svoboda said another priority was that the studio was able to interface with the rest of the building digitally, through its digital routers and digital tape machines. The company said it also wanted a lot of inputs without a tremendous footprint for the console, and with the C100 it was able to do that too.
"We have SSLs in just about all of our rooms now," said CBS Audio Supervisor Ray Lignowski. "All of our SSL consoles have been wonderful, and the service has always been excellent."
