CEA Awards DTV Pioneers

published The Consumer Electronics Association applauded the recipients of the Academy of Digital Television Pioneers awards at a luncheon during the 2005 HDTV Summit in Washington, D.C. on March 15.
The awards recognized organizations, people and events that promoted the DTV transition in 2004.
- Best DTV Over the Air Network - CBS
- Best DTV Cable System - Comcast
- Best DTV Cable or Satellite Service - DirecTV
- Best DTV Satellite Programmer - ESPN
- Best DTV Sporting Event - CBS Super Bowl XXVIII
- Best Original DTV Material - CBS for CSI and ESPN's HD Sport Center (two-way tie)
- Best DTV Journalism - HDTV Insider
- Best Industry DTV Leadership - Peter Fannon, Panasonic
- Best Government DTV Leadership - Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.)
- Best Retail DTV Leadership - Best Buy
Senator McCain used his acceptance speech to push for a hard date--which would have been 2009 according to his DTV bill that was squashed before reaching to the Senate floor last year--for analog shut-off and also advocated a subsidy for OTA receivers.
