CEA to Promote ATSC Mobile Handheld
The Consumer Electronics Association is looking for a few good members to form a committee to foster the implementation of an over-the-air mobile DTV standard in the United States.
The effort is designed to provide promotional and technical backing of the ATSC M/H standard for mobile DTV (A/153). Broadcasters hope to roll out technology that will transmit terrestrial DTV signals to mobile devices by the end of 2009. Specifically, The Special Interest Group for ATSC M/H will support the launch and growth of the ATSC mobile TV standard by fostering dialogue, providing educational programs and promoting a unified message, as well as promote the development and use of technical standards and best practices documents.
The group will also facilitate discussions with suppliers of technologies specified by the standard and arrange meetings with groups such as the Open Mobile Video Coalition to understand the broadcaster perspective. The OMVC is a coalition of more than 800 TV stations promoting the development and rollout of terrestrial mobile DTV services.
Any CE member interested in participating should contact Jack Cutts at jcutts@CE.org or call 703-907-7052.
