Century Theatres, Thomson agree on beta DCI projection deployment
Technicolor Digital Cinema, a business unit of Thomson, will install Digital Cinema Initiative-compliant digital projection equipment at 90 to 120 Century Theatres-owned screens in the first quarter of 2006.
The beta-test at the Century Theatres locations is the first step in what Thomson hopes will be deployment of DCI-compliant projection systems at the company’s entire network of more than 1000 screens.
Century Theatres are concentrated in fast-growing metropolitan areas throughout the western United States. The deployment is part of a primary rollout of complete digital projection systems in up to 5000 DCI-compliant screens over the next three to four years, according to Thomson. The company is hoping to equip 15,000 screens in the United States and Canada with DCI-compliant projection systems over the next decade.
