CES2008: Gefen, Pulse~Link Intro Home HDMI-over-Coax
Gefen and Pulse~Link have joined forces on the CES show floor this week to demo what the firms said is the first consumer-targeted method of extending the reach of HDMI video throughout a dwelling over a home’s existing coax cabling—thus providing a no-new-wires solution for relocated viewing.
The extender, simply put, allows a home with only one next-gen disc player or HD STB to circulate and view identical HD content at multiple locations within a home that is wired with coax cable.
The extension device (known as the Gefen HDMI Over Coax Extender) consists of an infrared backchannel that enables use of a single remote that controls a set-top box, DVR, and next-gen player (Blu-ray or HD DVD), at any coax-enabled locale in the home. The content distribution scheme can maintain simultaneous delivery of high-quality lossless video, as well as multichannel digital audio, according to both companies.
The extender is planned for shipment in April.
