Charleston's WCSC-TV Latest to Go Local HD
WCSC-TV in Charleston, S.C., (DMA No. 99) has begun airing its news content in 1080i. The Raycom Media property is the first in the Charleston "Low Country" market to switch to an HD format for news, sports and weather, according to the broadcaster.
"After more than a year of planning and months of retrofitting the WCSC studios, Live 5 News has made television history again," the station says on its Web site. The jump to local HD is what viewers in the market "have come to expect from the station that has been at the forefront of broadcasting technology since we signed on the air 55 years ago."
One of the new attributes of transmitting local content in 1080i, it said, is "a more detailed look" at weather data and images from the station's weather operations (Live 5 Storm Team).
Currently there are about 130 broadcasters airing local news and other local content in HD in more than 65 markets, according to sister publication Television Broadcast.
