JVC GY-HM100 Handheld Camcorder
Chicago’s Columbia College has purchased over 100 JVC ProHD handheld camcorders for its Film & Video department.
The school, one of the world’s major accredited film schools, obtained the JVC GY-HM100s for its Foundations Program, a two-semester series of classes where the art of filmmaking is taught through a hands-on approach.
The camcorders were chosen among many for their ability to record QuickTime .MOV formatted, HD quality video onto cost-effective SDHC memory cards. Following filming, students are able to drag files directly into the Final Cut Pro editing program without any time-consuming capture or ingest processes.
According to Department of Film & Video associate chair Don Smith, “JVC camcorders enable us to teach our students how to work as part of a creative collaborative team, employing the same efficient, streamlined workflow that is revolutionizing the way motion pictures are made.”
JVC and Columbia College Chicago already have an established business relationship. JVC donated a pre-production GY-HM100 during the Spring 2009 semester, and Columbia’s faculty was consulted during the development of JVC’s ProHD line.
