CHUM Launches Canada's First Digital Terrestrial Broadcasts
CHUM Television began broadcasting in digital this week, officially launching over the air DTV in Canada. The broadcasts are airing from CHUM's Toronto-based station Citytv.
CHUM received regulatory approval for a digital license from the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) in January. After a four-week test period, official transmission began Feb. 28, 2003.
The signal is available to residents of the Greater Toronto Area on digital Channel 53 or CityHD. Rogers HD digital cable subscribers can watch the signal on Channel 286 and consumers can also tune in via satellite on Bell ExpressVU.
CHUM Television is a division of CHUM Limited, a media company that owns and operates 8 TV stations and 17 specialty channels.
