CINEMA 4D adds sizzle to Oscars retrospective
Creative marketing firm d.inc design in Hermosa Beach, CA, and Hollywood-based Sweet Spot Productions recently took on a four-minute retrospective of the silver screen for use during the telecast of this year’s Academy Awards with assistance from Maxon’s CINEMA 4D software.
The project, “80 Years of Oscars,” presented a montage of motion picture images, including four-second-long redigitized clips of key moments from all 79 winners of the Oscar for Best Picture as well as their original movie posters.
"This was an immensely complex project that required assimilating a massive number of elements in CINEMA 4D” said John De Temple, d.inc design designer/animator/creative director.
The project also required creating graphical elements to identify each film’s title and the year each winner was recognized. The design company used CINEMA 4D to generate final 3-D render passes for each film with appropriate typeface for the film titles, a gold reflective frame around the posters and a shiny, thin black line surrounding all 79 moving images, he said.
“CINEMA 4D's flexibility and its tight integration with After Effects in the final compositing phase allowed us to create a classy look evocative of the prestigious event and output the footage in HD format," he said.
