Clear-Com, Drake Blend Intercom Resources, Trade Brands
Clear-Com Communications Systems and Drake Electronics have teamed up to become one communications and matrix intercom system maker.
"Our whole product range is available with a wider variety of matrices, user panels, wireless systems and network systems," said Joop Janssen, Vitec's chief executive for its Broadcast Systems Division and general manager.
After the Emeryville, Calif.-based Clear-Com and U.K.-based Drake combine resources, employees will be working for Vitec Group Communications (VGC) although each organization intends to maintain separate brand identities for some of their 200 products. Clear-Com's focus will be on international markets, theater, public safe and military, aerospace and government, while Drake will remain focused on the Air Traffic Control (ATC), space, training and simulation markets.
The companies will trade a few of their brands. Clear-Com will now handle the matrix intercom systems that Drake previously offered, and products that Clear-Com marketed, such as accessories to Drake matrix systems, will now be branded as Drake.
The companies communication systems include the Eclipse, Matrix Plus and 4000 Series II digital intercom systems and Freespeak Cell-Com digital wireless intercom systems, also offering intercom accessories, party-line products and networking technologies as part of the product portfolio.
At IBC2004 this September, VGC will share information about its matrix, party-line and wireless broadcast intercom systems of the new VCG strategy.
