CNET: "All Americans Will Eventually Have Pay TV"
CNET's News.Com carried an interesting article by Thomas Lenard titled No more delays on digital TV that discusses the options the FCC is considering to speed the DTV transition. The article describes the debate going on between the FCC, broadcasters, cable companies and DBS providers and includes a quote from FCC Chairman Michael Powell that I had not seen in other articles. The article said Powell noted, "It seems clear to me that at some point on the horizon, all Americans -- perhaps in 10 years -- will have pay TV. If 100 percent of Americans don't get free, over-the-air TV, what are we protecting?" Read No more delays on digital TV for more information on the push to shut down analog TV.
