College teams use AT&T wireless to connect with mobile fans
In an attempt to connect more with fans, the University of Kansas Jayhawks have joined with AT&T to keep fans informed about team activities via mobile devices.
This includes an integrated wireless and texting program that allows fans to receive free game-day reminders, team statistics, updates and news about the Jayhawks’ various sports, including football, basketball, volleyball, tennis and soccer.
Kansas, one of 22 collegiate teams to participate with AT&T in the wireless and texting program, sees the technology as a new way to better connect with fans.
Using the “All Access” plan, fans can access games (all with audio and some with video), highlights, press conferences and coach’s shows online.
For AT&T, this is the fifth consecutive year college football fans will have the chance to vote via text messaging for the AT&T All-America Player of the Week. Additionally, AT&T customers can view video highlights and photos of each week’s candidates and track their favorite teams through the network’s wireless NCAA Football Portal, which is accessible on AT&T handsets by launching AT&T MEdia Net and clicking through to the sports category.
Through the AT&T MEdia Mall, fans can also download fight song ring tones from more than 150 college and universities. Animated screensavers and 3-D mobile wallpapers also are available for more than 100 college and universities.
“College football fans are some of the most involved and impassioned in all of sports,” said Tim McGhee, director of corporate sponsorships for AT&T. “We’re connecting college football fans with the sports they love through rich content they crave.”
