The Cologne Broadcasting Center (CBC) has installed an Omneon Spectrum media server system in its new Munich broadcast facility for playout of RTL II programming--including German-language movies, infotainment magazines, series, music programs and cartoons. The new building and server went live July 1.
"In building our new playout facility, we sought a flexible and scalable sever system that would integrate easily with other advanced broadcast technologies and provide native MXP support," said Mido Fayad, CBC's head of broadcast operations and engineering.
The Omneon Spectrum server provides three input channels, six output channels and 120 hours of storage in 50-Mbits/s IMX format. The system will operate with Abit Present It automation using VDCP and exchange material with an IT-based archive in MXF format.
The server's infrastructure is designed for broadcast playout and storage applications. Omneon's server system supports third-party applications for control and transmission, media management, archiving and collaborative production, so stored media can be shared among users and applications.
