Comcast Launches HDTV in Washington Metro Region
Comcast Cable Communications is bringing HDTV to more than 120,000 customers in Alexandria and Arlington, Va. The cable operator expects to expand HDTV programming to eventually reach over 750,000 customers in the Washington Metro region by the end of October.
The service will be available at no extra cost to current Comcast digital cable subscribers. Customers with HDTV-ready sets will need an HD converter box from Comcast.
Local broadcasters with HDTV programming include WJLA (ABC), WUSA (CBS), WRC (NBC), WETA (PBS) and cable's HBO and Showtime channels. Comcast is currently offering HDTV in the Philadelphia and Baltimore metro areas and plans to expand HDTV service to Detroit and Indianapolis by the end of the year.
