Comcast, Qwest Add HD in Colorado Springs, Phoenix
If the current jockeying for position in the high-stakes game of seeing who can offer the most HD content the fastest has accomplished anything, it seems to have convinced cable that sooner is better than later. Each new HD channel addition in all-sized markets now is immediately noted by both the warring DBS and cable industries--including this week's announcement from Comcast that it has launched six more HD channels in Colorado Springs, Colo. (DMA No. 94).
Comcast said its latest additions bring its current HD channel tally to 19 outlets in the market, to now include Cinemax HD; Versus/Golf Channel HD; Universal HD; MHD; National Geographic HD; and A&E HD.
The cable firm said the new channels are available now at no additional cost to digital-tier subs in Colorado Springs who have HD set-top boxes, according to CNN Money.
Meanwhile, Qwest has added five channels to its HD lineup for its digital subs in Phoenix (DMA No. 13), including most of the same ones that Comcast added in Colorado Springs, plus FSN Arizona, which is a sports venue.
