Comcast to Carry Philadelphia Public Broadcaster in HD
Comcast Cable Communications Inc. has agreed to carry Philadelphia public broadcaster WHYY's HD broadcasts to 1.3 million customers in the greater Philadelphia region.
WHYY will be available to Comcast digital cable customers on channel 190, featuring eight hours of digital and HD programming from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. daily. A digital simulcast of the channel's programs will run from 3:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. Comcast will also carry WHYY's standard-definition channel.
Comcast launched a four-channel HDTV package in the greater Philadelphia area last November, and is adding WHYY because of strong customer response. Comcast plans to extend its HDTV offering in the near future to other markets, including the Washington, D.C. area, Detroit and Indianapolis.
