Comments Due on Requests for Extension of DTV Testing Waiver
Under the Satellite Home Viewer and Reauthorization Act of 2004, DTV broadcasters in the top 100 markets with a tentative DTV channel designation and those without interference protection could request a waiver to prohibit signal strength tests for DBS distant signal determination. The FCC limited the waivers to stations that met certain criteria.
The FCC granted testing waivers for 23 stations, but these waivers will expire Oct. 31. Fifteen of these stations have requested an extension of the waiver. FCC Public Notice DA 06-1919 states opposition to these waiver requests had to be filed by Oct. 5. Stations have until Oct. 13 to reply to opposition. Refer to a href="http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DA-06-1919A1.pdf">Public Notice DA 06-1919 for information on how to view the oppositions and file comments.
