Connecticut Public Broadcasting (CPB) recently went online from a new broadcast operations center, designed and built by A.F. Associates.
CPB, made up of Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) and WNPR-Connecticut Public Radio, was able to incorporate legacy equipment into the new design, which supports HD broadcast and production. A.F. also designed a new, all-digital infrastructure for WNPR.
The new SD/HD Network Operations Center (NOC) houses all the racks for CPTV’s core technical systems, with room for future expansion. The NOC includes eight technical areas: master control; uplink/RF control; ingest/VTR dubbing; camera shading; automation, servers and archive; routing, patching and quality control; MATV headend; and the infrastructure for the WNPR radio systems.
The new facility also features two studios with Sony HDC930 HD cameras, a three-tiered, MVS-8000 HD switcher in the production control room, and HDCAM HDWM2000 tape machines with multiple-format playback capability.
