The Consumer Electronics Association has chosen digital video recording as one of its “Five Technologies to Watch” in its recently published edition of the annual technology tracker.
The ability for consumers to record digital video and store up to 300 hours of programming without tape was chosen along with home operating systems, Wi-Fi/ultra wideband, mobile gaming and hi-res audio as the top technologies to follow next year.
A recent CEA study found that 72 percent of consumers are somewhat or very interested in purchasing a digital video recorder. They also believe that DVRs will edge out VCRs in the near future as the home recording technologies of choice.
According to “Five Technologies to Watch” HD camcorders that can record and playback HD content, and Blu-Ray discs that can store more than two hours of HD programming on a single disc are in the works.
