Cryptography Research president Paul Kocher speaks out on content protection, IPTV
Cryptography Research last month announced chip-maker Broadcom had licensed its CryptoFirewall, a self-contained hardware security core, for its system-on-chip set-top box semiconductors.
These SOCs are aimed at giving conditional-access providers a way to build their content protection technology directly into an integrated consumer platform.
The man behind CryptoFirewall is Paul Kocher, president and chief scientist at Cryptography Research. Kocher, who has just been elected to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering (NAE) for his contributions to cryptography and Internet security, shared his thoughts on content protection, IPTV, and striking a balance between protecting content and maintaining ease of use for subscribers.
